Advocate Vernon Jantjies, who previously worked for the Department of Justice in Khayelitsha was shot dead in Lentegeur around 9.40pm on Sunday.
Mr Jantjies, 54, was at the BP garage in Lentegeur when several shots were fired at him. He died on the scene. Police detectives are following up several leads following this incident.
Mr Jantjies is one of at least three lawyers involved in high profile gang-related cases who have been killed in the past three
years.
The others are Noorudien Hassen who was shot in Lansdowne in 2016, and Pete Mihalik who was shot dead in October last year.

Also on Sunday, three houses burnt down in Megan Street, Tafelsig, including a formal dwelling and four informal structures. No injuries were reported, and the cause is unknown. The fire was extinguished at 11.04pm, said Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service.
Earlier that day, at 7.05pm, two motor vehicles collided, killing a 55-year-old woman.
At the accident scene, on the corner of AZ Berman Drive and Langeberg Street, Tafelsig police found a black Ford Figo and an Opel Corsa bakkie. The female passenger of the Opel Corsa, died on the scene and several of the passengers who were seated at the back of the bakkie were taken to a nearby hospital. It is alleged that the driver of the Ford Figo had crossed the intersection and collided with the Opel Corsa bakkie.
The 31-year-old male driver of the Ford Figo, was arrested, and he is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.
He is expected to appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday May 5, next year on charges relating to culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol

In another accident, which happened around 11pm on Monday December 2, a man was killed when three vehicles collided on the corner of Morgenster Road and Dagbreek Avenue in Westridge.
