Mitchell’s Plain police are investigating several murder cases and shootings and have arrested a gang member in possession of counterfeit money.
Murders and shootings
The Mitchell’s Plain police needs help in a murder investigation following the discovery of a body on Mnandi Beach on Sunday March 11.
The body of an unknown man, was found with stab wounds to his body and head.
The deceased was found dressed in denim jeans, brown leather shoes and a brown T-shirt.
Police suspect that the body was dumped on the beach.

Mitchell’s Plain police received a complaint about a shooting at the corner of Merriman and Botha streets, Eastridge on Sunday March 11.
On arrival, the police discovered a 20-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds to his back. Police are still investigating the matter and there have been no arrests yet.

Another shooting in Ravine Street, Eastridge, was reported to Mitchell’s Plain SAPS on Monday March 12. When police arrived on the scene, the body of a 37-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his body.
The man was with his friends when a rival gang came and started shooting at them.
Police recovered nine cartridges on the scene and are investigating a case of murder.
No suspects have been arrested.

Mitchell’s Plain police also attended to a complaint about a body that was found on a field near Groote Schuur Road, Westridge, on Monday March 12. Police found the body of a 48-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest.
The deceased had reportedly come from a nightclub when the stabbing took place. A knife was found on the scene.
No one has been arrested and the investigation continues.

Possession of drugs
The Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 25-year-old man in Tafelsig on Sunday March 11 for possession of drugs.
The man had been walking down the road when he saw the police and dropped a bag he was carrying in his hand.
The man was found with 104 straw units containing heroine, 31 bankies containing tik and 65 half mandrax tablets wrapped in foil.
He appeared in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday March 13, on charges of possession of drugs.
Another man was arrested for possession of drugs in Rocklands on Friday March 9. Members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit noticed a suspicious male and when they stopped and searched the 18-year-old man, found drugs in the pockets of his jacket.
Firearm found
Mitchell’s Plain SAPS sector commanders found a CZ 9mm short arm in Eastridge on Monday March 12.
The police searched the area and found the firearm hidden in a drain with the serial number filed off, a magazine and 10 rounds of ammunition. No one has been arrested and the investigation continues.
The community is urged to exercise responsible legal firearm ownership. Make sure your firearm is secured and stored in a safe place and report any loss immediately.
Counterfeit money
Mitchell’s Plain SAPS’ Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 35-year-old man found with counterfeit money in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig, on Sunday March 11.
Police found a plastic bread bag with counterfeit R100 and R200 notes totalling R6 400.
The suspect, who is a gang member, was arrested at the scene.
He was scheduled to appear at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Tuesday March 13.
