Police arrested a Beacon Valley man and confiscated 175 litres of liquor.
The 50-year-old man faces a charge relating to dealing in liquor without a valid licence.
He was arrested on Friday February 22 at 1.45pm by Mitchell’s Plain police’s Flash Unit during a routine liquor compliance inspection in Loftus Street.
Mitchell’s Plain police spokesman Sergeant Jerome Voegt said as they arrived, a Toyota bakkie, parked at the house, was about to be offloaded.
SAPS Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested a man, 31, and a woman, 45, on charges relating to drug dealing.
The two were arrested at about 5pm on Friday February 22, at a house in Sayed Abdul Samad Street, Rocklands, where police were following up on an anonymous tip-off that drugs were being stashed there.
Police searched the premises and confiscated 500 packets of tik, weighing a gram each; 294 packets of tik; six packets of tik; a big plastic packet of tik; six straws of tik; a medium size Ziplock packet of heroin; 15 packets of heroin; a large quantity of mandrax tablets; 500 ecstasy tablets; three pieces of folded foil containing mandrax tablets; two plastic sealers; and a silver scale.
A total of a R194 960 in cash was also confiscated.
Sergeant Voegt said the drugs had an estimated street value of more than R300 000. The couple were due to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to dealing in drugs this week.
A man, 31, was arrested after a high-speed chase in which police pursued four men through the streets of Eastridge around noon, on Thursday February 21.
Police apprehended the man in the backyard of a Fidelio Street property where he was hiding.
The man was arrested in connection with the theft of a cellphone and was due to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court this week.
He was one of five men, who had been searched during a patrol along the railway line, next to Seventh Avenue in Eastridge, where the Huawei smartphone was stolen.
The aim of the operation was to prevent any form of theft and damage to Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) cables and infrastructure; and to execute vehicle patrols, stop and searches at identified scrap yards and foot patrols in the affected areas.
The areas identified were Beacon Valley and the CBD area adjacent to the Mitchell’s Plain railway infrastructure and Tafelsig.
Sergeant Voegt said four scrap metal yards were searched for copper and Prasa infrastructure.
A 22 9mm pistol, two 5.56 calibre pistols and R5 ammunition were confiscated from a house in Pikkewyn Street, Rocklands, at 2am, on Thursday February 21.
A tip-off from the community also led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man who was due to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s court last week, on charges relating to being in possession of ammunition without a valid licence.
