After receiving a tip-off that a man was walking with a firearm in the area, Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a man with a shotgun in Eastridge, just after 9pm, on Sunday June 2.
A high speed chase ensued as police followed the man from Lindsay Street, to a house in Fitzpatrick Street, where they saw the man dropping the firearm in the yard.
Police confiscated the 12 gauge shotgun, which had 10 live rounds of ammunition, and arrested the 31-year-old man.
He was due to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday June 4 on charges relating to possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Mitchell’s Plain police will continue to tirelessly clamp down on crime in the area, said Sergeant Jerome Voegt, from Mitchell’s Plain police station.
