Beacon Valley netball clubs, community organisations and sponsors joined hands in coordinating a school holiday programme for youth in Ward 116.
The programme was supported by ward councillor Solomon Philander, Safeline Child Abuse Treatment and Prevention Centre, Mizpah Educare Centre, Beaconvale Community Frail Care Centre, City of Cape Town’s sport and recreation, Margaret’s House and Wolfgat Nature Reserve.
Mr Philander said the activities, excitement and joy on the children’s faces proved that “when an organised community comes together we are able to build an united community”.
Activities included netball, soccer, a day trip to the nature reserve, a talent show with recycling goods and a presentation.
“Together we were able to provide a holistic programme for children in Ward 116 using the community centre,” said Mr Philander.
The programme will be run every holiday and other groups are welcome to join hands to ensure that children are kept busy during the school break.
