Child Protection Week

Two hundred people attended the Child Protection Week event hosted by Safeline on Thursday June 6, at Christ the Mediator Church in Portland. Safeline director Rochelle Philander, spoke about the safety, well-being and care of children. She encouraged the community to be united in prayer with all families in Mitchell’s Plain who have suffered the loss of a child. Social Development MEC Sharna Fernandez urged adults not to remain silent if they see abuse. “Children learn from watching adults. Break the cycle of abuse. Inform authorities if you are aware of children being abused. Be vigilant. Teach your children about ‘stranger danger’.” Prayers were said for the children who died due to violent crimes.
