A charity has collected more than 1000 packets of menstrual pads for needy girls and women.
This came after members of the City of Cape Town Cycling Club rode from the Grand Parade to the Lakeside fire station, on Saturday December 2, in support of AgainstPeriodPoverty, a Mitchell’s Plain non-profit organisation run by Lindsay Adams.
The public could throw packs of pads into the back of a sponsored bakkie that accompanied the cyclists. Other sanitary products were collected elsewhere in the city and more were donated, on Monday, during the handover of all the pads at the Bellville offices of the car dealership that sponsored the bakkie.
The coordinator of the cycling club, Regan Bagley said: “There is a need to support underprivileged girls and women who cannot afford these basic necessities and hence it must be a national movement that sanitary pads for underprivileged girls should be free.”
