Ricardo Mackenzie, member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and constituency head of the DA for Mitchell’s Plain
President Jacob Zuma, we urge you to bring back the specialised gang units to the Mitchell’s Plain area, as you had promised to some time ago.
While we wait, we are seeing young people falling victim to gang violence.
We have seen many incidents where children as young as 11, are shot dead when caught in the crossfire between gangsters.
In 2016, there were 119 murders in the area, 179 sexual offences and 546 cases of assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Hence, urgent assistance is needed in our communities and with the help of a specialised gang unit being deployed into our area, our people will be safer.
The people of the Cape Flats are being deprived of the ability to live a life they value because of crime.
