* Police have warned the public about online scams after a man paid R16 200 for a car that never materialised. The victim saw the car, a blue Toyota Yaris with registration VVW 086 GP, advertised on Facebook on Wednesday October 10. After the buyer deposited the money for the car, the “seller” vanished.
To avoid being a victim of such scams, police advise the public to check the dealer is trustworthy and their contact details are accurate, view the vehicle, check the status of the vehicle with traffic and police, check the car’s paperwork and to withhold payment until taking a receipt of the vehicle. The seller should check that payments are cleared before handing over the vehicle and that the SMS bank confirmation is genuine.
