Two men from Rocklands and a gang member from Eastridge were arrested in separate incidents on charges ranging from being in possession of an unlicensed firearm to being in possession of ammunition.
On Tuesday April 17 Mitchell’s Plain police received information about ammunition being kept at a house in Stirling Road.
Upon searching the premises, the police found two 9mm rounds of ammunition.
A 38-year-old male was arrested for the crime.
The police were doing an early morning stop-and- search in Rocklands on Wednesday April 18 when they noticed a suspicious looking man in the street who started running when he saw the police.
The police pursued the suspect and saw him throw an item on the roof. When police seized him and took him to the spot where he threw the item, they found a Browning 7.65 firearm with serial number 479196 with six rounds of ammunition.
A 36-year-old suspect was arrested.
On Saturday April 14 at 3.30pm, Mitchells Plain SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were executing search warrants at a house in Burger Street, Eastridge.
While searching the premises, police found nine copper .22 calibre rounds, 12 silver .22 X Red AAA 12 boor shot gun rounds; one super red 12 boor live rounds; two slugs SP 12 boor live rounds; two SSG green 12 boor live rounds; one purple 12 boor live round; one black super 12 boor live round and one red shell for 12 boor rounds.
Police arrested a 27-year-old male gang member. The suspect faces charges of unlawful possession of ammunition.
All three men will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to possession of an unlicensed firearm and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
