Alleged drug merchant Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy’s home in Turksvy Street, Lentegeur, was petrol bombed at around 9.45pm on Sunday October 2.
According to police, the bomb hit two garage doors and damaged two vehicles.
Lentegeur SAPS spokeswoman Sergeant Cathy Meyer said no one was injured, no arrests had been made and a case of malicious damage to property was being investigated.
In other crime news, between Friday September 23 and Thursday September 29, 718 people were arrested in the Mitchell’s Plain police cluster for crimes including murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of firearms and stolen vehicles.
The cluster includes eight stations – Mitchell’s Plain, Athlone, Grassy Park, Lansdowne, Lentegeur, Philippi, Steenberg and Strandfontein.
The police searched 86 houses for drugs during various operations, which resulted in 254 arrests for drug- related offences.
Drugs seized included 54.02g of heroin, 198.2g of tik, 232g mandrax tablets and over 1g of dagga.
Twelve tracing operations resulted in the arrest of 60 wanted persons.
The police visited 31 second-hand goods premises and nine shebeen operations were held. During these operations, three people were arrested and 97.25 litres of alcohol were confiscated.
According to police, 83 crimes against women and children were recorded, which resulted in 29 arrests.
Three people were arrested for being in possession of firearms.
Five roadblocks and 41 vehicle checkpoints were also held throughout the cluster and 41 fines were issued, totalling R147 500.
Six stolen vehicles were also recovered.
A 30-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a man, aged 24, who had been shot in his chest in Uranus Street, Rocklands, on Saturday March 12. The man died on the scene.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday September 30. He faces a charge of murder and is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s court soon.
A 57-year-old woman was arrested and fined for selling liquor without a licence in Merriman Street in Eastridge, on Thursday September 29. Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a man, aged 44, for the murder of a Tafelsig man in Garcia Close, Tafelsig, on Sunday September 25. The man was shot in his back and then died in hospital.
According to police the victim, allegedly a gang member, had been with other members when they saw men running towards them. The victim and his friends then ran while they were being shot at. The suspect faces a charge of murder.
Two men aged, 32 and 33, were arrested for stealing a vehicle in Stromboli Street, Tafelsig, on Tuesday September 27. When the police arrived on the scene they found the suspects in the vehicle. They will soon appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court.
