Alfonzo Solomon, who has been selected to compete in the Mr South Africa 2019 competition this year, is preparing to strut his stuff on the runway in his best suit and tie.
The finals take place in March next year.
Alfonzo, 36, grew up in Retreat and moved to Tafelsig with his mom when he was 8. He moves between Retreat and Mitchell’s Plain for work.
Alfonzo studied at City Varsity between 2001 and 2014. He studied acting and got very involved in modelling.
He has been in the acting industry for 15 years. He has also appeared on Generations – The Legacy and acted alongside American actress Vivica A. Fox in Blast.
Hestartedhisowncompany Alfonzo Solomon Productions, in June last year. He produced a short film Knockout, for the 48 Hour Film Project, starring Bonnie Mbuli and Irshaad Ally.

He says beauty pageants have changed over time.
“Pageants do not focus on beauty anymore – they now focus on the inner person, how they think, how community interaction is perceived and just being you,” he said.
He says the journey he has been taking with modelling has given him the experience to enjoy his modelling career, especially in the Mr SA competition.
He will be heading to California in October to attend the American Film Market alongside some of SA’s up-and-coming film producers.
