Kashiefa Ajam, who grew up in Lentegeur, was appointed editor of the Saturday Star last week. Ms Ajam has held the position of acting editor for the past 18 months. The Saturday Star is a Johannesburg-based daily newspaper from the Independent Media stable, which also publishes the Plainsman. Ms Ajam, who is an Aloe High School alumni, began her career at Independent Media in 2000 as an intern at the Cape Times after a short stint in TV as a sports reporter. She moved from Cape Town to the Saturday Star in 2004 and was appointed senior writer in 2008 and news editor in 2009. She was then made assistant editor in 2014 and acting editor in March 2015.
