A total of 690 people were arrested for various crimes in the Mitchell’s Plain Cluster between Friday November 3 and Thursday November 9.
The cluster includes Mitchell’s Plain, Lentegeur, Strandfontein, Steenberg, Grassy Park, Lansdowne, Athlone and Philippi police stations.
The police operations included the execution of search warrants, searching of wanted suspects, high density patrols, visible policing as well as stop-and-searches.
According to police, 50 homes were identified for search forand searched for drugs, leading to the arrest of 317 people and the confiscation of drugs.
● Two men, aged 21 and 26, were arrested for being in possession of a Z88 pistol with serial number TQ 123371, with one magazine and 15 live 9mm rounds, in Grey Crescent in Tafelsig on Monday November 6. According to Mitchell’s Plain police, the two men were gang members.
● A man, aged 37, was arrested for being in possession of a home-made firearm and two live rounds of ammunition in Klipspringer Street in Eastridge on Wednesday November 8. The suspect faces charges of possession of a firearm and a charge of possession of ammunition.
● Another 37-year-old man man aged 37 was arrested for being in possession of a black pistol, one magazine and eight live rounds in 4th Avenue, Eastridge, on Sunday November 12. The suspect faces a charge of possession of fully automatic firearm without a licence, permit or authorisation as well as a second charge of possession of ammunition.
● A man, aged 39, was arrested in Bainskloof Street, Tafelsig on Friday November 10, for being in possession of 452, 750ml sealed Black Label beers, 222, 750ml sealed Castle beers and two 750ml sealed bottles of Old Brown sherry, without the necessary licence.
Police also found 56 brown SAB crates in Bainskloof sStreet, Tafelsig on Friday November 10 and confiscated 23 packets of tik and R140 in cash.
● A woman was arrested for being in possession of 145 packets of tik and 10 whole mandrax tablets at the premises on Tuesday November 7. Operation Combat members executed a search warrant at the well-known drug outlet. The woman was detained at Lentegeur SAPS cells for being in possession of drugs.
● Two men were arrested for being in possession of 250 units of heroin and an undisclosed amount of cash in Pasteurhof in Woodlands on Thursday November 9. According to Lentegeur police both suspects were dealing in drugs.
● Two men were arrested for being in possession of drugs at Brahms Circle, Mandalay, on Thursday November 9. The Visible Police Unit received a complaint from Radio Control of drug activity in the area. When Lentegeur police arrived members asked permission of the house owner if they can search the premises, to which the owner agreed and gave consent. The police found 15 stoppe dagga, a tik lolly containing tik.
