Eighteen people were injured when a taxi rolled off the R300 near the N2 turn-off in Mitchell’s Plain yesterday, Tuesday February 6.
One of the passengers was found lying trapped beneath the vehicle while several other passengers were walking around the scene.
Metro Rescue services used special equipment to the free the patients from under the taxi.
All of the patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries on the scene before being transported to hospitals for further care.
A 32-year-old man charged with being in possession of drugs appeared in Mitchell’s Plain magistrate’s court on Monday February 5.
He had been arrested on Sunday February 4 at 7.30pm after Mitchell’s Plain police’s crime prevention unit followed up on information about drugs being sold on the field near Epsom Crescent, in Beacon Valley.
They searched the man and seized 71 packets of tik.
Station commander Brigadier Cass Goolam said the police would continue to work tirelessly to clamp down on crime in the area.
He thanked the community for forwarding information about crime which led to the arrest.
