Trips to island on offer

Robben Island Museum (RIM), in partnership with the national Department of Tourism, will be hosting an open day on Heritage Day, Saturday September 24.

RIM and the department will be giving 1 600 free tickets to Capetonians for a return trip to the island, to create awareness on the importance of preserving Robben Island as an iconic national and World Heritage Site.

The open day is fundamental in creating access for communities and the cultural enrichment of South Africans and will form part of Tourism Month celebrations, says RIM.

Free tickets will be issued to people through the media and NGOs. Winners will be treated to a ferry ride and a prison tour on the island.

For more information you can contact Nomonde Ndlangisa on nomonden@robben-island.org.za or call 076 297 4406.

* The Plainsman is giving away 25 pairs of the free tickets so you and a partner can enjoy a trip to the island to learn about our history. All you have to do to stand in line to win is SMS PMROBBEN with your name and details to 34445 before 10pm on Sunday September 11. SMSes cost R1.50 each. Winners will be notified telephonically.
