Seniors take aim at raising awareness

Sarah Maart, 74, Wasiela Bremmer, 64, both from Beacon Valley, Francis van Schalkwyk, 80, Catherine Clarke, 70, both from Rocklands, Mariam Williams, 65, from Westridge, Doreen Geduld, 69, from Tafelsig, and Ruth Lottering, 71, from Rocklands.

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month eight seniors’ clubs competed against each other in a netball tournament at Rocklands civic centre on Thursday October 13. Play leader Joan Rossouw, from the City of Cape Town, hosted local seniors’ clubs, including Beacon Rock, an amalgamation of seniors from Rocklands and Beacon Valley, Searidge Park, in Tafelsig, Westridge Chatroom, Harmony Seniors, in Tafelsig, Strandfontein Seniors, Social Warriors, in Tafelsig, Beacon Valley Seniors and Swartklip Seniors, in Tafelsig. “They are all so young at heart and had not played a game of netball in such a long time,” said Ms Rossouw. “They still have life in them. It doesn’t mean that because they are old they cannot participate.” A view succintly summed up by Beacon Rock Seniors’ Club’s motto: “There is life after youth.”
