The Cape Groove and Blaqpearl Foundation in Portland hosted their monthly Chilling with a Poet event on Thursday March 28. Local artists, among them Earl George, Rosey Die Rapper, Joker, and Ma’am, performed. Janine Overmeyer, left, co founder of the Blaqpearl Foundation, who is also on the board of Trade Union for Musicians of South Africa (TUMSA) stressed the importance of knowing and exercising your rights as a musician. The Copyright Amendment Bill, she says, has the potential to negatively impact musicians in South Africa. TUMSA will be marching to deliver a memorandum to a representative at the President’s Office, urging him to engage directly with composers before signing the bill. Lady K Soul, right, was the host for the evening.
