A Rocklands artist’s hit single Give it has reached the top spot on one of the 20 radio stations that are currently giving it airplay nationally.
Igshaan ‘Shaan’ Adams, 28, from Rocklands has released the leading single from his debut 17-track album, Thankful in November last year. It has been at number 1 spot on the SA Top 10 Chart on Heart FM for 5 weeks in a row, and peaked at the number 1 spot on their CTM Top 40 Chart at the same time, he said.
Shaan started singing and rapping at the age of 6, and at the age of 9 he started writing his own songs. At the age of 11 he started making beats. He could not afford producers or beat makers at the time, and created his own beats, producing his own music, he said.
“Growing up my biggest influences were Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne. I created my own music because I struggled to express how I was feeling, and I was able to express my emotions and thoughts through my music,” he said.
Give It is about appreciating your significant other and being the best you can be for them, said Shaan.
“The light is not at the end of the tunnel, it is within you. The best thing you can do is be yourself,” he said.
Prior to the release of Thankful, he released over 100 songs and several mixtapes. He did not receive many streams “but knowing that one person listened was enough to keep me motivated and inspired. If someone spent 3 to 4 minutes listening to my song, it’s time they will never ever get back, and that is where the album title Thankful was derived from,” he said
